Privacy
Short version: we collect the minimum needed to verify that you're a real person with a genuine interest in this community, we protect it carefully, and we don't share it with anyone. Ever.
What we collect, and why
When you apply, we collect: the name you go by, your legal name, email, phone number, how you heard about us, community groups you belong to, anything you share to establish your bona fides, and a verification picture. All of it serves one purpose: a human being verifying that you're a real, adult person who belongs in this community. We collect nothing else, and we never collect anything from you just by visiting this website.
What we don't do
This site has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking cookies, and no third-party scripts of any kind. We do not sell, trade, share, or disclose your information to anyone, full stop. Your membership in this community is nobody's business but yours.
How it's protected
Your information is stored in an access-controlled database, encrypted in transit and at rest. Verification pictures are held in private storage that is never publicly accessible and are seen only by the person doing the verification.
Retention
Your verification picture exists only for the review of your application: once the review is complete, it is deleted, whether you're approved or declined. If you're approved, we keep your member record for as long as you're a member. If your application is declined, we also delete your bona fides information and your phone number, and retain only a minimal record (your name, email, and the decision) so that repeat applications don't have to be re-processed from scratch.
You can delete your account yourself at any time. When you do, we delete your information at that point. The one exception is where there are records connected to your account that we need to keep: in that case your name, your contact details and those records are kept for 7 years, and then deleted.
Your rights
Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act governs how we handle your information. You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and a person will answer.
